Misija

NDAL is a higher education institution of applied sciences, which, in accordance with higher education standards, implements professional bachelor's and master's level higher education programmes within the framework of Military Defense studies, successfully combining students' academic studies with the training of professional military servicemen in order to prepare knowledgeable, skilled and professional military leaders for the NAF units.

NDAL prepares the youngest officers of the NAF for the specialization of the Land Forces, the Naval Forces and the Air Forces, as well as provides career and lifelong learning opportunities for NAF officers in accordance with NATO and EU military education standards. NDAL creates and strengthens in cadets and junior officers a sense of belonging to the community of cadets and officers of NATO and EU member states.

NDAL enjoys public recognition and trust. It is open to new knowledge, technologies and innovations. It introduces new study and research forms and methods to ensure the integrity of research and studies, an interdisciplinary and problem-solving oriented approach to the training of NAF officers and the development of NAF combat capabilities.

NDAL respects academic freedom, ensures continuous improvement of the academic and general personnel, qualifications and quality assurance and improvement of study programmes. NDAL strengthens the security capabilities of the Latvian people, develops the values of democracy and protects the basic values of Latvian culture and Latvian identity. NDAL, as the inheritor of the traditions of the Latvian Military School, preserves and develops the traditions of Latvian Army and NAF officers.

Cadets of the Defense Academy have access to an improved library with several comfortable reading rooms, including a 24/7 reading room.

The purpose of the library is to facilitate the fulfillment of the tasks of the Defense Academy, to provide services and information resources for professional study programs, scientific research work and academic activities.

National Defense Academy of Latvia Library is the only military industry library in Latvia.

 

 

How to find us

You can get to the NDAL:

By bus 9: stop "Merķeļa iela" (near Riga Circus). Get off at the bus stop "Aizsardzības akadēmija", then walk back about 100m to the entrance on the left where you can see the Checkpoint and the barriers.

By tram 11: stop "Stacijas laukums" (tram 11 terminus) or stop "Merķeļa iela" . Get off at the bus stop "Rusova iela", go forward along Ķīšezera iela (past the SRS building) and after the "Viada" petrol station turn down Ezermalas iela, go to the entrance on the left where you can see the Checkpoint and the barriers.

The main activities of the National Defense Academy are:

1. preparation of officers for service in the National Armed Forces;

2. research in the military sector, which is necessary for the improvement of national defense and ensuring the operation of the NDAL;

3. refresher and retraining courses for employees of the state defense system;

4. preparation and publication of teaching methods, textbooks and scientific works.

Admission to studies at the National Defense Academy is carried out by selection, based on the requirements of the Higher Education Law, the Military Service Law and other binding regulatory acts.
