The aim of the study programme
To prepare non-commissioned officers of the National Armed Forces (NAF) according to the 5th professional qualification level for the performance of military service duties at tactical and operational level in the NAF units thus strengthening the national defence capabilities, providing theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The study results
Describe the interaction of NAF structural units in the performance of daily and combat tasks and the requirements of professional activities, labour law and other regulatory acts; explain the tactical, administrative and personnel management processes of the subunit/unit and their regularities; apply the basic principles of military leadership and military decision making process in the performance of daily and combat tasks; organize the combat support and provision of military operations, the circulation of material and technical means, the implementation of training at the subunit/unit level; support the planning of military operations within the subunit/unit; choose suitable solutions according to the situation in both standard and unpredictable environments; argue the point of view according to the purpose of communication, observing the basic principles of ethics by using literary language and appropriate terminology of the field; critically analyze the information and sources of information and use the information technologies in performing work duties, lifelong learning and digital content creation.

Requirements:
- a citizen of the Republic of Latvia;
- secondary education;
- professional soldier (rank – Staff Sergeant (Navy – Boatswain), Sergeant First Class (Navy – Chief Petty Officer).

The Content of the Study Programme
The 1st STUDY YEAR (the 1st and 2nd semester)
In the 1st study year, students take both general knowledge courses and field-specific courses – Logic, Civil, Environmental and Labor Protection, Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Economics, Project Management, Professional Military English, Military Pedagogy I, Military Pedagogy II, Tactical Operations, Joint Combat Functions, Logistics, Military Leadership I, Culture of Military Organizations, as well as the study courses related to military history, comprehensive national defence or information warfare.
The 2nd STUDY YEAR (the 3rd and 4th semester)
In the 2nd study year, the emphasis is placed on field-specific study courses – Planning and Organizing Military Exercises, Tactical Situational Awareness, Modern Warfare Environment and Technologies, Military Leadership II, Staff Operations and Security, Professional Ethics, Use of Digital Command and Control Systems, as well as the study courses related to security policy, communication, and research methodology. There are 2 internships in this study year and teh development of a qualification thesis is initiated.
The 3rd STUDY YEAR (the 5th semester)
In the 3rd study year, which is one semester long, the main emphasis is placed on the final internship and the development of a qualification thesis, as well as the study course Integration of general Physical Training in the Military Environment and a course on digital skills are taken.

Tasks of the study programme
1. To ensure the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of effective planning, organization and administration of subunits/units and military operations, providing support in the implementation of the commander’s intentions.
2. To provide students with military management knowledge and skills for managing and training subordinate personnel, developing leadership abilities.
3. To develop students’ communication skills and abilities to plan, identify regularities and make decision, including the situations where unpredictable changes are possible.
4. To promote the development of students’ information literacy and general competences, promoting personality development.
